    Siouxland Day 1

Day one of Siouxland 2008 was ............ Mostly Dry!

The grounds were a little wet from storms the night before but in general it was dry. The crowds were good and they were looking to buy for the most part.  Lots of entertainment and what I saw was really good.  Several of the entertainers performed at the Grammercy Party on Saturday night.  One group that was particulary good was The Lost Boys. Check out their song "Henry and Anne"  I will have to buy this disk. "Serf Music" is also particularly good.  You can think of them as Wierd Al from 1599.

The joust was indoors this year.  The horses seemed to like it.  It was not easy to understand the emcee because of the sound system.  Maybe it was where we were sitting.  Several of the vendors were set up under permanent roofs; mostly those with fragile or breakable things.

The boys played a great naval battle game on the green.  The French, Spanish, English and Pirate fleets all battle for treasure.  Dice are rolled, ships are moved and attacked. Cannons blast (you can see the smoke) BOOM! and Hit  CRASH! or Miss SPLUSH! Masts are destroyed.  Ships are boarded and sunk and eventually someone wins the game.  The boys are convinced they want to help the English today since they seem to win.
